Throwing down a Junk Yard Juke Joint right at the core of the Wandsworth Arts Festival, Platterform are teaming up with The Brick Box and Assemble Studios to cater to the adventurous and the inquisitively inclined.

Award winning architecture and design practice Assemble Studios are in the process of constructing a Cabinet of Curiosities to house all the weird and wonderful objects found in the recent river Wandle clean ups as part of a project to reenergise overlooked public spaces.

From these items of fascination remarkable stories have been gleaned and will be on display for the public to view under this impressive structure which also provides shelter from the treacherous British weather. Not only that but the lovely ladies at The Brickbox have moulded an eclectic programme of diverse acts that range from live music, comedy and spoken word to circus, geomancy and shape throwing. Prepare to be delighted and amazed.

A short, sharp and to the point drinks list will see Pistonhead Lager, Briska Cider, wines and spirits to quench the thirst of the curious while Junk Juice and Crude Oil will provide the fuel to the jam packed night.

A heap of thanks to James at Proof Drinks and Alice from Wray&Nephew for their support.

Find us at the Wandle Triangle, Wandsworth High Street, (opposite Southside Shopping Centre), SW18 4L

For more further information on the line up please visit http://www.thebrickbox.co.uk/whats-on.html

For the past two years the Wandsworth Arts Festival has been a true cultural success and this year it promises to even better than ever. More than 35 acts performing across the borough and for the first time there will be a Festival Hub with licensed bar situated in a neglected area next to the river.

Cock 'n' Doodle- Chicken ... Cocktails ... Art ...

With better-raised, better-tasting birds now available and with noted wide ranging socio-cultural mass appeal (especially as a healthier alternative to red meat including horse meat), the humble chicken has finally evolved from the lazy menu order to the sole reason for a restaurant’s existence…

Nando’s is determinately getting a ‘chicken’ run for its money where last year alone saw Mark Hix open Tramshed, Cass Titcombe open Roost, Soho House Group open The Chicken Shop, the guys behind Meatliquor open Wishbone and a countless number of other chefs du jour whack chicken dishes onto their ‘finger-lickin’ good’ menus.

Proving that this bird still rules the roost and isn’t flying away anywhere, PLATTERFORM are proud to announce the launch of a new Friday night chicken and art mashup event at their rooftop home in SE1, opening their doors to the rising stars of London’s mushrooming food scene and instigating a chicken battle (some may like to refer to it as a Cock Fight), to establish who’s chicken is top of the pecking order.

Being the ‘experiential guys’ that they are it was a given that some form of creative entertainment would be required in the mix, where upon brainstorming for the occasion a very bad doodle of a chicken with a speech bubble crying “cock-a-doodle-doo” was drawn on the corner of a page, spawning the concept and name of the event….

COCK ‘N’ DOODLE!

Needing some better artwork, PLATTERFORM went on to devising a workable and interactive format for this, welcoming artists to participate in what can best be described as a large scale doodle-off. Contributors bring along illustrations to form a collage of work on a large dedicated wall space that the public in turn may add to with doodles- evolving the piece of art over the course of the night.

To complete the Cock ‘n’ Doodle package and for one more play on words associated with chickens, ‘Cock Tails’ will be in abundance on the night! All served up in chicken jars and all inspired by various chicken recipes and styles of cooking.

Wash down your juicy, succulent yet crispy chicken with a Jerk ‘n’ Stormy, a Lemon & Thyme Smash or a Smoked Sazerac and sing Cock-a-doodle-doo!!

Wikipedia definition of ‘doodle’…
A doodle is an unfocused or unconcious drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied- in this case by extremely tasty chicken!

Platterform for Kids Company

Marked as the day of the Great Galactic Alignment, the 21st December 2012 is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125 year long cycle in the Mayan Long Count calendar where one age comes to an end and a new age begins. Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, a renewal, balance and harmony as foretold through ancient wisdom teachings and indigenous prophecies worldwide.

There is no denying that on this prophesised end date, we are all presented with the big question as to what our fate may be. Other numerous apocalyptic theories of global disaster have left a lot of apprehension and uncertainty in the air, however we at Platterform are inclined to agree with the Mayans- We think we’ll be alright!!

The underlining narrative to what we have curated at The Last Supper Club stays true to this Mayan belief of transcending to a higher state of consciousness, where during our creative development sessions we instinctively came to the quick realisation that what we were planning could allow us to play a role in making some positive change for this new era.

Naturally we developed a strong desire to include a charitable element to our alternative festive event and it wasn’t long before we found ourselves at Kids Company headquarters talking to the lovely Sally Cotton about how we could do something at the Last Supper Club to raise funds for their massive Christmas Party planned for 3,500 kids on the 25th. Every year Kids Company seek funding to provide lots of good food, presents, love and fun for an increasing number of less fortunate and vulnerable children.

On the first day of the new era, Saturday 22nd December, the Last Supper Club will be hosting a special fundraiser auction of all the artwork provided by our collection of very talented artists. Hosted by Kids Company’s Creative Director, Jane Caldwell together with massive supporter Gok Wan and Platterform, the Last Supper Club Time Capsule Art Collection will be auctioned off with proceeds going towards Kids Company’s Christmas party on the 25th.

Guest list requests, enquiries and reserve bids can be made in advance by contacting Laura Fleur on 07964 237299 or info@platterform.com.

The event kicks off at 6pm on Saturday 22nd December with the auction program commencing at 7.30pm.

The auction is due to finish by 9.30pm after which the night will continue on with a great line up of DJs and bar open until 2am.

A huge thank you goes out to our artists: Lauren Baker, Carne Griffiths, Benjamin Eagle, Mr Tit, Leopard’s Lunch, Josh Leon, Mr Piper and Will Vibes.

You can also join Kids Company’s ‘Make-a-Christmas TO REMEMBER’ campaign on Facebook. Choose an essential element of the Christmas Party, donate it, see it join the party and then share it easily with all your friends, inviting them to help too! www.facebook.com/kidscompany

TIME CAPSULE ART

Pompeii was lost for nearly 1700 years before its rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinary detailed insight into the life of a city once thriving and buzzing with life.

Should the 21st December 2012 mark the date of a catastrophic ending to the world as we know it, what would we want to leave behind for those to rediscover in the next 1700 years?

A collection of personal artworks inspired by the legacy of mankind, creating a symbol of our times and an insight into our collective cultures, beliefs and historic moments. A cache of art intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists, anthropologists and historians understand the world we once lived in.

The Last Supper Club invites 9 artists from various disciplines to produce original art pieces to be ‘buried’ in our Time Capsule installations exhibiting at the Yard, 89 and a half Worship in Shoreditch between 6th- 21st December.

Inspirational quote provided by Leopard’s Lunch:

“Humans have been on the earth for around 200,000 years and in that time we have done about as much damage as we possibly can whilst continuing to thrive as a species. I think the apocalypse will be caused by a shift in the balance of power on the earth. Nature will fight back as it did with dinosaurs millions of years ago, and humans will become extinct. The signs are already there with hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis occurring across the globe with increasing regularity. After the apocalypse, human remains will be buried in layers of geological mass and in many million years time someone will use the carbon they leave behind to draw a huge pencil illustration of their version of events.”

Making a Killing on the Apocalypse

Our epic end of year (and coincidentally, end of the world) 3 week pop-up event, The Last Supper Club has been designed to capture one’s imagination by presenting a number of world-ending scenarios in various forms, where at our venue, the Yard an apocalyptic smorgasbord awaits you.

Who would of known that an Ark had been built to try and save Londoners from this cataclysmic date? that 5,126 year old Mayan recipes would be recreated for mankind to enjoy for the very last time? or that a special confession box existed for those to repent in these last days before Judgement?

Whether you take the Mayans seriously or not, there are enough end theories out there to suggest that something could quite possibly happen on the 21st December 2012, so we were extremely pleased when we discovered that our neighbours around the corner at Creature of London were also a little obsessed with this date and had published this little book of end of the world illustrations.

Heading straight over to their headquarters we met ‘Making a Killing on the Apocalypse’ creators Billie Jean and Joe Stone and asked them if we could assist them in their endeavours to making a killing on the apocalypse! The opportunity of making a mint at our perfectly fitting event, sealed the deal where we hope that Billie and Joe will enjoy their fortune and that our part of the profit can contribute nicely towards our fund raising for the ones that need the finance the most over at Kids Company.

Making a Killing on the Apocalypse available at The Last Supper Club, 6th- 21st December 2012.

Only £6.99 with £2 from every book sale going towards our fundraiser for Kids Company.

The SkyMarket opens for business

Following the huge success of our temporary summer events, Bonnie-On-Sky and the London Picnic Club, we are delighted to inform you that Platterform will now be taking up a long term residency at the Skyroom- A big thank you for all the love and support we have had to get us to where we are!

Setting out to challenge the traditional constructs of drinking and dining, our recent experimenting with space, social interaction and performance over the past few months has led us to devise an all encompassing concept that will take us through to the end of the year and beyond…

Introducing the SkyMarket.

Opening for business from 25th September until 17th November, The SkyMarket will offer London its first rooftop market place where customers can drink, dine, shop and learn both night and day. A kitchen, bar, deli, art & craft gallery and performance space all under one roof- or should I say, on top of one roof!

Markets are all about variety- different smells, sounds, sights and flavours. Different cultures, customs and ultimately different people. Using this as our impetus we aim to continuously introduce new dishes and invent new cocktails for our menu, make our own or source new interesting products for our bar and deli as well as host a number of cultural events including live music, theatre and dance.

Markets also represent community, and as we continue to discover the wealth and abundance of what SE1 has to offer feel compelled to encapsulate all that is great about the area.

As a concept the SkyMarket allows us to connect with the burgeoning food scene at Borough Market and the Maltby Street area; work with local growers such as St. Mungo’s of Melior Street and local beekeepers via the Sustain Food Network; offer local independent food producers a new outlet to showcase and sell their products; give artists, craftsmen and collectors a new space to exhibit or sell and local musical and theatrical talent a unique setting to perform to a new audience.

SkyMarket Food…

Every week our team of chefs get together and share new recipe ideas to feature on our changing market menu. This will all be presented in the form of an open cooking class or presentation every Tuesday lunchtime between 12pm- 4pm, where we invite you to watch in and have the opportunity to taste, learn, share ideas and become part of the process.

Our food direction aims to offer a multi-cultural gastronomic experience, bringing together long standing family recipes passed on through the generations with authentic regional recipes and seasonal favourites. Dishes are carefully designed and selected to work well together and are packed full of personality and flavour for you to enjoy in unique SkyMarket style.

Featuring cuisine combines the heritage, knowledge, intuition and experience of our kitchen team, introducing exotic Indonesian dishes from Sumatra to the Moluccas, taking a fresh approach to African dishes from Morocco to Sierra Leone, reconstructing Caribbean dishes from Jamaica to the Antilles and injecting a bit of Latin flair with staples from Brazil, Venezuela and Peru.

SkyMarket Drinks…

The ongoing SkyMarket Bar drinks development takes cues and inspiration from the changing food menu where our experienced bartenders will create bespoke and inventive cocktails designed to complement dishes. Premium spirits, beers and wines are sourced and selected to complete the regional focus for the week.

As added value, live experiential drinks brand events including workshops and masterclasses will take place every Tuesday evening at 6.30pm, inviting some of London’s finest drinks experts to join us in our bar, share their vast knowledge on production, mixology and techniques, host open tasting sessions and exchange ideas for cocktails.

SkyMarket Deli…

Similarly, our SkyMarket Deli will announce weekly product launches, inviting special guests to host tastings and workshops in store. Our exclusive stock selection will focus on supporting a number of local independent food producers and growers from beekeepers to jam makers as well as select traders from Borough Jubilee Market and the Maltby Street area.

Over the coming months we will also be introducing our own range of home-made products so that some of our special SkyMarket dishes can be recreated and enjoyed at home.

Whether you are a local or are visiting the area we hope to capture your imagination, satisfy your desire to discover new things and look forward to sharing our passion for great food and drink and more.

NO NEED TO BOOK. The SkyMarket operates a ‘first come first served’ table system.

Tables are limited, however, food and drink can always be enjoyed throughout the space in true ‘Market style’. In order to best serve all our guests we do not seat incomplete parties, this helps reduce waiting times by decreasing open tables. Early arrival recommended!

A theatre dinner in an unconvential space, Platterform will be hosting a new play by Ncube on Saturday the 28th of September. Please visit http://www.whatelseisthere.org.uk/ for more information …

The FESTIVAL of BRITAIN is a new play by Ncube set in May, 1951, as London approaches the spectacle that is the FESTIVAL of BRITAIN; the sequel to the GREAT EXHIBITION.

We are in a shop with a café/bar and its garments are manhandled, looked over or given the looksee by a brilliant bunch of Brits. We eavesdrop on conversations between the consumers. We hear of their worries, their joys, their victories and their sources of disgruntlement. We are voyeurs or peeping Toms but they don’t seem to mind… So much so they share things we should never hear… Things no one should ever hear…

It’s an intimate piece that’s uplifting, unforgettable and strays down unexpected paths.

There’s music making its rounds courtesy of a preppy musician who answers to the name Little Bo Peep. Her take on classic songs from that era are lilting and unobtrusive. She blesses us with versions of ‘If I Knew You Were Coming I’d Have Baked a Cake’, ‘Goodnight, Irene’, ‘The Third Man Theme’, ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ & ‘Dream A Little Dream.’

It is the 4th play from Ncube. It was written in what he describes as ‘a period of artistic blooming of a highly-charged kind.’

Ncube is a young playwright and novelist who delights in dialogue and shared intimacy. He is 28 and heads a collective of ambitious new theatre-folk.

The costumes are designed by Skilful Dot.
London Picnic Club at the Skyroom...

LONDON PICNIC CLUB

25th July- 8th September

We are proud to announce the launch of our next immersive food and drink adventure- THE LONDON PICNIC CLUB.

Our second installment at the Skyroom will show how we continue to curate events aimed to surprise and excite our audience with top quality food and drink at the heart of our ongoing experiments with performance, space and social interaction- creating a feast for all 5 senses!

Running for the duration of the Olympics and Paralympics, the Skyroom designed by young architect David Kohn (creator of a Room for London atop the Queen Elizabeth Hall in South Bank) will gradually undergo a transformation into a garden with a difference- a colourful, living and breathing roof top oasis allowing guests to retreat from the London chaos below.

Share and enjoy exquisite food presented in the form of surprising picnic hampers, take part in garden games, catch a variety of exclusive and intimate live music acts or stretch out on blankets and cushions to watch one of our especially selected movies at our mini screen on the green.

The primary focus of the London Picnic Club involves a progressive and evolving food and drink menu that will show a strong relation to our developing roof top garden installation- keeping things seasonal and directly interactive with our space.

The experience is aimed to be surprising at all times, where our guests will discover new flavours in a playful and dynamic environment that brims full of creativity and connects people in new ways…

Platterform’s new head chef Alejandro Bello (of Ceviche fame) has collected and carefully reinvented select dishes from various corners of the world all assembled beautifully inside an iconic British picnic hamper. Designed as a sharing meal, expect London Picnic Club hampers to contain inspirational tapas style hot dishes, innovative ceviches and fresh garden salads as well as a fine selection of produce from local suppliers including artisanal bread from St. John’s Bakery, cheese from Neal’s Yard Dairy and charcuterie from Brindisa all served with home-made preserves and dips. Exotic desserts, fresh Summer fruits and surprising treats complete the package.

Drinks take inspiration from the quintessential British Summer garden where Platterform delve into the world of experimentation using their own garden ingredients to make shrubs (fruit preserves), infusions, cordials and bitters to combine with premium spirits, fresh fruits and hand picked garden herbs.

Grab your favourite picnic blanket and gather your friends for a once in a life time picnic experience!

So that’s it! We won! ‘Best Food Experience Artist’ as judged by Bompas and Parr, and Alexa Perrin.

Picked up an extra thick chopping board for our award for ‘Best Food Experience’.It would have been a truly memorable if we hadn’t of drunk so much, although from what I do recall it was a night of amazingly talented people, misjudged make up and fantastic food and drinks

A big thank you to all the people who made it possible especially

Antoinette and Dan for being stars.

Dave for cooking up a storm.

Jeff from Waverton for taming the Bronco.

Mario and the rest of the crew at Floripa for being cool.

Very proud and humbled

“WHO ARE THE YBFS?

They’re the people putting food and drink back at the heart of our communities. They’re the men and women using lost arts and new skills to bring craft back to the kitchen.”

Platterform are pleased to announce that we have been short listed for the Young British Foodies annual awards in the ‘Best Food Experience’ category. Having presented our concept to judges Alexa Perrin (founder of the Experimental Food Society), and Bompas & Parr (legendary jellymongers) we will now be donning our glad rags crossing our fingers on the 29th of May at east London’s Park Village Studios.

We drew inspiration from a book written in the 1930′s entitled “Les Jeux et les Hommes”, translated as “Man, Play and Games”. This publication was a result of careful studying play and it’s relation to the development of culture and society by a French philosopher called Roger Caillois. Caillois systematically analysed play and divided it into four categories. He put forward the idea that all forms of play had an element of at least one of these divisions. Each category was given a name which were mostly derived from Greek and Latin words. Firstly there was agon which represented games of skill such as chess, boxing or drinking. Alea was his term for games of chance such as roulette, going to a Wetherspoons or lotteries. Mimicry was how he described games of role playing or invention for example playing cowboys and indians, with dolls, or as a hip hop gangsta. Finally he used illinx for the persuit of vertigo. Not exactly vertigo as in the fear of heights but more of losing control or thrill seeking such as rollercoasters, spinning in circles or bungee jumping. The idea worked on connecting each of the four aspects of play he described in his book to four courses of a dining experience.

We presented two of the four courses, the aperitif which was linked to illinx and the main course which utilised mimicry. We called the aperitif ’The Chamber of Voluptuous Panic’ and consisted of a cocktail containing Babicka Wormwood Vodka, a German Krauterlikor, Orange Bitters and an Absinthe fog paired with a vertiginous thrill. The choice of main determined the role the judges played in a light hearted game of fancy dress. Sam Bompas who chose the vegetarian option looked particularly fetching in his blonde wig, tiara and golden velvet gloves. Both appeared to be well received by the judges but as yet there is no way of knowing if we will be chosen for the award.

The full experience might be available to the general public in the not too distant future and will include a starter based on chance and desserts where extra indulgences may be won in contests of skill, in what we are presently calling ‘Dessert Warfare”. Right now though looking forward to meeting all the others involved in this years YBFs.

This Friday the 16th of December Platterform and WTWTW are proud to host the International Holzhacker Olympics- the Big Saw Off.

Originating from the Bavarian tradition of Holzhacker, or the Woodchopper’s dance, for hundreds of years members of remote Alpine villages would gather together to cheer the bravest and strongest in a ritualised test of wood cutting skills, endurance and nerve. This ancient art was later transported to Calgary in Canada by five courageous young men in the early 1950′s and then spread to Nova Scotia , Vancouver and North California. Soon after the breakdance craze of the early 80′s peaked and the media were on the look out for the next big thing, holzhacking briefly rose to prominence. Though it faded from the public eye, mainly due to Madonnas introduction of Vogueing to the world, Holzhacking managed to take root in many rural communities and fired the imagination of many a young man in lederhosen. Now London will have a chance to witness this exciting dance/sport/possibly even martial art up close and in the flesh.

Competing this year will be the champions and many peoples favourites for the competition, the LumberJocks. Hailing from Vancouver they are still undefeated and many would say especially since they turned professional in 2005, have pushed Holzhacking to new levels. Having recovered from a shaky start against the LumberDudes of North California in the regionals they grew stronger and stronger, progressing to the Seven to Smoke finals sweeping all those before them. They have not travelled halfway across the world just to party, although I am sure they will do plenty of that, but are here to win.

By contrast the representatives of Europe are decided in a very different way. In keeping with the old ways they are chosen by a random old drunk man who often sprinkles them with saliva while ranting incoherently. They then spend the next few months in preparation, rolling cigarettes, drinking whiskey and telling rude jokes by the fire. They will be determined that the trophy returns home.

And for the first time in the history of the championship a third team will enter the fray. Following a long drawn out battle in the European Courts of Human Rights the LumberJills have been cleared to participate. They are certainly the surprise package but having taken a sneak peak at a sparring match they held in secret I would say with their raw energy and gamesmanship they are dark horses of the competition and the two other teams would be advised to take them as seriously as they do their beer..

Categories for the final games include:

LOG SAW OFF

NINE INCH NAIL HAMMER

STEINER BEER SWILL

ARM WRESTLING

Throwing a party on a roof top does come with its complications- especially at this chilly time of the year! However, producing events at unconventional spaces with limited time and logistical odds against you creates a framework that requires the utmost attention to detail and thinking outside of the box…

As well as combating the elements and providing guests with every means possible to keeping warm and cosy we have curated a music programme for the Sky Lodge that is totally unplugged and up-close-and-personal, acting as a perfect backdrop for all of the festive fun whilst ensuring that our neighbours wont be disturbed by the likes of throbbing basslines, cracking beats and pulsating synths- We’ll save that stuff for another event!

After briefing our dear friend and general band wizard Vaz Pilikian (from Notting Hill Arts Club, Proud, Ginglik, Troubadour and Ronnie Scott’s fame) on what we thought the music policy should be for an Alpine Apres Ski Lodge with a London roof top twist, he went away to deliberate, put the feelers out amongst his arsenal of very talented musos, check out dozens of ‘ones-to-watch’ gigs and even assign himself a mission to make his first ever Oompah band booking!

For a nominal entrance fee you will be able to enjoy some seriously sublime unplugged music whilst relaxing in a Fat Boy bean bag with a Ginger Bread Toddy. Alternatively, get your Lederhosen on and your feet stomping to the oomph-oomph of the Oompah with your favourite beer drinking buddy.

Sky Lodge music takes ‘A Fiddler On the Roof’ to a whole new level!

It was 11:11pm on the 11th of November when we got the email. It simply said “We wish to invite you, assimilate you and present you”. Apparently this is the standard invitation from performance collective Where The Wild Things Were. Confused but intrigued we set up meeting the next day and a challenge was set down. Five minutes later, without thinking through the complications and permutations the decision would bring, hands were shook and and the Sky Lodge had got it’s Residents.

The subsequent weeks are difficult to explain as members of both the Firewater Society and WTWTW met to exchange ideas and techniques. Bar and floor skills were developed, methods of Grotowski and Decroux were practiced and cocktail demonstrations given. Most startling was the acceptance and integration of the two groups. The distinction became so blurred that it is now difficult to ascertain who originated from where and even which parts of their fictional pasts were separate from their own historical realities. As for the aim of this experiment we thought it would be better if we let Dermo, one of the chief instigators of this project explain. Few people know who Dermo actually is, but communicating with hand written notes he leads the amalgamated group through the process, coaxing and orchestrating details through a cloak of secrecy.

“If we seek to work outside of standard theatrical constraints, such as the stage and the script, it enables us to return dramatical performance to one of its earliest functions, forming a dialogue between practitioner and observer.” one of his notes stated before continuing “To do this we not only immerse the audience in the theatrical experience but also allow ourselves to be moulded and guided by those who would traditionally be solely witnessing.” Rumour has it that Dermo and some of his cohorts are set to appear at the Sky Lodge in various guises, seamlessly blending into the audience, undetected by all present and influence proceedings in a pure expression of invisible theatre.

Whether this is true or not we may never know but the other participants chosen as the Residents will certainly be noticed. We met with several to find out more about them and discover why they wish to be involved in the Sky Lodge.

The LumberJacks love of beer and their fierce competitive spirit is what brings them to this rooftop retreat. An intense rivalry has grown over the last couple of years between these North European hatchet men and the LumberJocks of North America. The opportunity of oneupmanship will prove too hard to resist in any contest of hacksawing, beer swilling or trunk splitting for these hardy individuals.

The Silver Foxski tells us that since his mercenary days what he primarily seeks is some good company. A drink, a joke and some pleasant surroundings are all it take to attract this smooth trickster to spend time toasting marshmallows, engaging guests with witty banter and charming those around him who he calls his ‘hens’ .

For some there a more personal issues involved. The RastaBavarian for instance has used theatre to turn around his life and cites Augosto Boal author of the ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ as one of his greatest influences. “Ich was a bad man but now with mein work and with Jahs blessing Ich bin a bad man no more”. He uses Shuplatter, a Bavarian folk dance, to channel any aggression and tension that may build in him. It requires coordination, courage and dedication. Perhaps more crucially is a mastery of rhythm and some firm butt cheeks. “I see Shuplatter as da German Capoeira” he says. “Ich be no batty boy as Shuplatter transcends all tings.”

Another has decided to devote almost his whole waking hours to immersing himself totally in his fictional alter ego. The Bi-Polar-Bear has practically cut himself off from normal society exposing himself to ridicule and risking severing any connection to his former life. Following concerns from other members of WTWTW he now takes one hour a day to touch base with his true identity which he does by hiding in a dark closet.

Two of the Heidi Hosts don’t see the need to go to such extremes. Heidi Heidi Ho is working at the Sky Lodge primarily to fund her studies which she hopes will fully qualify her as a serving wench. Heidi de Milka is also hoping to save money and eventually travel to exotic places across the globe. “I vant to travel ze vorld.” she says “It gets zo boring milking ze cows.”

Hot Doug the Italian ladies only ski instructor has an altogether different reason. Why?.. “To gedda to know da ladies of course!” he says with a wicked smile. Hailing from Turin and with four years of lady ski instructing behind him he clearly wishes to leave his mark. “Look! I may not a take the art form so seriously like some of the other guys… but I do understand what the most important thing his! You guys need to have the best time, and we Residents?… We need to make a this happen… We promise to be the best hosts, friends… and possibly even lovers you will ever meet!”

Most curious of them all is the Gingerbread Man. Nobody knows why he does what he does but his sweet nature and spicy dance moves make him a favourite with the rest of the Residents. Once he conquers the fear that you are going to eat him you too will find him the life and soul of the party.

Involving without awkwardness the Residents may be surreal, irreverent and slightly bizarre but they will always be welcoming and fun this festive season at the Sky Lodge.

(Editors note: Unfortunately Hot Doug broke his leg in an off-piste non ski accident involving two of his female students and will not be offering his services at the Sky Lodge. He will be replaced by Your Wurst Nightmare professional Bratwurst juggler and kartoffel peeler. )

Where The Wild Things Were are a loose collective of performance artists based in London but originating from a wide variety of countries, cultures and artforms.

Apres Ski indulgence is back and best of all can be found on your very own doorstep! Offering a special one off treat this Christmas, Platterform will bring the Alps to London recreating and reinventing the best of seasonal shenanigans, festive frolics and winter warming.

For many people, the most recognisable symbol of affluence in the early Noughties was the Ski Holiday. Millions of pounds were routinely spent on shiny pink and silver jackets, oversized sunglasses and woolly hats with funny bobbles. These items would only be used for two weeks of the year, but for that year at least, were regarded as essential possessions. This was promptly followed by a frantic search through Conde Nast for the latest featured destination to which hordes of people would jet off to, pad themselves up with thermals and then fall over in the snow before the real holiday began at the Après Ski.

It was here at the lodge that the snow seekers would come together to bond alongside a log fire, drink copious amounts of warming alcohol and share an agreement that what happens off piste stays off piste. Now in these slightly more frugal times, the ski holiday might seem like an unnecessary luxury, an expense most hard working individuals could ill afford. For some it may even appear to be a fond memory consigned to distant times of plenty never to be revisited… This needn’t be the case anymore!

Apres Ski indulgence is back and best of all can be found on your very own doorstep! Offering a special one off treat this Christmas, Platterform will bring the Alps to London recreating and reinventing the best of seasonal shenanigans, festive frolics and winter warming.

Working with underground performance collective Where The Wild Things Were (WTWTW), Platterform will take up a two week residency at a secret rooftop retreat under the shadow of the mountainous Shard building. By purchasing a Sky Pass guests will have the opportunity to meet with fully qualified guides at London Bridge to embark on a short and pleasant trek to the hideaway, sampling local produce and revealing areas of natural beauty along the way. Ascending up on the ski lift to the Sky Lodge they will discover an architecturally award winning and beautiful venue. This tardis like space (the landlords have assured us that it is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside) will offer a warm and friendly welcome, not to mention entertainment that will surprise and delight.

WTWTW have devised a variety of quirky short performances inspired by customs from mountainous regions across the world. Two such performances, the ‘Slapdance’ and the ‘Lumberjack Battle’ are fresh takes on the Bavarian ‘Shuhplattler’ and ‘Holzhacker’ folk dances and will see the eccentric residents of the Sky Lodge pit themselves against each other for supremacy and egotistical pride. Others such as the Once-Upon-a-Time Storytelling and Christmas Carol Capers taking place in front of the Drawing Room’s fireplace will invite visitors to engage and participate if they so desire. Panoramic projected art will sit in harmony with the Sky Lodge’s own spectacular views where bespoke installations and curiosities are concealed in unexpected places.

Taking you to dizzying heights, colourful characters will always be on hand to amuse and intrigue with their own unique hosting skills whilst serving up locally foraged Alpine style food accompanied by Giant Lager, festive cocktails and delicious winter warmers supplied by speakeasy specialists The Firewater Society.

The holiday starts here. Wrap up warm and see you on the slopes!

Firewater Club

This is where it all started…

As a precursor to the Platterform concept, the Firewater Society was founded in March 2010 as a response to drink makers and drinkers of West London longing for a valid enough reason to get together and hang out on a…Tuesday night!

On 27th April 2010, The Firewater Society proudly presented West London’s first true and long overdue industry night- The Firewater Club at the Notting Hill Arts Club. Inviting all of London town’s well-seasoned Bon Vivant’s to gather for a special monthly drinking occasion with all of the garnishes!

The Firewater Club ran throughout the summer months of 2010. Drinks brands, both old favourites and new got involved; master classes and tasting sessions would kick off the parties; bespoke cocktail lists were created and guest ‘startenders’ would jump in the bar to show off their mixology tricks as bands played and artists talked about and showed people their latest exhibitions…

The Firewater Club also hereby solidified West London’s apparent tequila frenzy with the inauguration of The Tequila Mafia. An axis of teq-evil saw bartenders from the Notting Hill Arts Club, El Camion, Santo, Crazy Homies, The Westbourne and the Portobello Star congregate and join forces to show off their mixing (and drinking) skills as they rotated shifts behind the bar, showcased the latest tequila shipments in from Mexico, nibbled on nachos and proved to everyone how tequila was undoubtedly the choice party spirit of all time.
Providing the perfect musical backdrop for all the shenanigans the Firewater Club showcased punchy live sets from rising London musical talent followed by a frenzy in the DJ booth as guest DJs played on rotation accompanied by their best friend in a bottle.

Arts Club friends and local heroes automatically received free Firewater Society membership upon arrival, however, anyone with a zest for good time imbibing could join. Members received royal treatment at Firewater Society events and were immune to door charges and entitled to discounted drinks!

Firehouse Kustom Rock Art Show

For an extra special visual feast last June’s Firewater Club reconnected with old friends and past exhibitors Chuck Sperry and Ron Donovan, the talent behind the Firehouse Kustom Rock Art Company. As part of their Psychedelic Secession tour Chuck and Ron exhibited at Glastonbury and stopped off at the Notting Hill Arts Club’s Firewater Club before carrying on their travels across Europe.
The concept for this body of work paid homage to the Psychedelic movement of today and kicked off with a commissioned gig poster design for MGMT which Chuck conjured up whilst listening to “Metanoia”. These guys are major players in the game and since 1997 have designed approximately 500 gig posters for a vast array of artists. Their back catalogue includes MGMT and Massive Attack of late, Eric Clapton, Joe Strummer, Pearl Jam, Paul Weller, The Prodigy, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Danzig, Chris Cornell and the Black Crowes to name but a few! The silkscreened posters on display will be for sale, so it is advisory to get down early to get the best pickings- last time they completely sold out!!
